MC Authority

You will need your MC Authority if you want to haul freight interstate.Getting you MC Authority can seem overwhelming for some folks.

Actually  it is not that difficult, but it will take you several days. There is a mandatory 10 day waiting period. This is because the FMCSA wants to allow time for someone to contest you from getting the MC Authority granted to you.

mc authority

When you start your trucking company this is what will happen.

You put your application for your MC number on the 1st of the month.  You have a 10 day waiting period which takes you to the 14th of the month (remember 10 business days).

Make sure you have your insurance company file proof of insurance on the 1st of the month BUT it does not become active until the 27th.

This means he FMSCA won’t activate your operating authority until after the 27th because that is when your insurance actually becomes valid.

It is common for the FMCSA to take an additional day or two to release your new active operating authority.

For all your MC Authority questions talk to the folks at STS.
